Fantastic food for such a cheap price! Breakfast burritos are only $3 and is literally the best thing I've ever tasted. Only complaint would be snarky cashier that sometimes works there, she always has a sourpuss face. But who cares, love the food. Always open too!

great prices. ordered "horchata" with 4 burritos and they gave us a "machata" burrito and then made us pay for the horchata when we tried to say they gave us the wrong order. food was good. i would go back.

Haven't eaten much here, but the Fish tacos were pretty damn good. Double tortillas for each, battered deep fried fish, good stuff, pleasantly surprised. Just as good if not better than Rubios. This rating for the fish tacos only...can't comment on the rest of the food, will have to come again...

It was OK. We got the beef tacos, and it was really dry; granted it did have a lot of meat on it, I felt as though it was too lacking.

I've been coming here since I was very young. It's conveniently located off the Strand (Highway 75), right as you enter Imperial Beach from Coronado. Being that I'd come from Coronado in the evenings, I'd always drive by here hungry... And this place was exactly what I needed-- it's cheap and is really great. My favorite order is the rolled tacos. These are so different and delicious from any other place I've had them. I love the loads of sour cream/ aguacate combo sauce they layer on top of it with melted cheese, and your greens (lettuce). The salsa is super flavorful too. I used to eat 12 of these rolled tacos by myself when I was in high school, but now I can only do 6. Since it's to-go food, you get your order fast and no matter what time it is, there are always people stopping by to pick up orders. The food is always still hot when I've gotten home. Every time I'm in town and I need a quick and good meal, I crave this place.

Giant carne asada nachos! Carne asada mini tacos! Nothing beats late night mexican food.

GET. THE. CHILLE. RELLENOS. I was skeptical at first because usually i'd stick to tacos at a "taco shop" but, they are soooo good. Better than some sit down mexican restaurants i've been to. This place is our go to for take out mexican. It's inexpensive and delicious. We're proudly working our way through the menu. The quesadillas are extremely generous as well as the burritos. Couldn't give it 5 stars because, they refuse to make carne asada tacos in hard shells (not fond of soft shells tacos) & because even if you call ahead you are waiting at least 20 minutes for your food.... i'm starting to think they don't make our order until we pull up. Regardless- we keep coming back

Slave girl and I were told, if we were in imperial beach, we must have Don Panchos, especially the surf and turf burrito. I was thinking, holy smoke that must be a treat to have lobster and steak taco! Then we ended up here in front of a little hut with 4 tables outside... As slave girl would say about me, "stupid..." Anyway, parking was easy and the the line moved quickly. We ordered the surf and turf, carne asada fries and a large fountain drink. The shrimp inside the burrito was tender and tasty but the steak was pretty dry. It was filled with lots of rice and not enough shrimp. While the overall portion was okay and quality was decent, I wouldn't say it's a delicacy spot but more of a "I am hungry and fill me up now" joint. The fries was meh, I would suggest to skip that. Get a large drink if you plan to refill because they charge 54 cents for it. They take credit cards as well but they also charge you 50 cents for it. The seating area was scary as hell since every flies and their moms from the beach were there playing the hunger game, either you give up and share your food with them or take it to go. I would suggest to get it to go. Lastly, don't forget to ask for the salsa. They got red and green and I am on team green.

I live a few blocks away so this has been (emphasis on been) my go-to taco shop in Imperial beach. In the words of the great Riff Raff from Rocky Horror Picture Show "But not for very much longer!" I shall do this in steps so people can relate, hopefully. Kvetch number one, Beef taco. A beef taco is pretty simple, shredded beef, lettuce, tomatoes or pico de gallo and cheese on a crisp corn tortilla. Believe it or not it isn't easy to find a good beef taco. I have never EVER gotten a beef taco from Don Panchos where the tortilla hasn't been cracked down the middle before I got to it. It basically becomes a sandwich with the beef and goodies falling out of the bottom. Thanks for the mess, guy. Kvetch number two, carne asada. Inconsistent at best, except for the saltiness. Sometimes it's chewy, sometimes it's dry. On those unfortunate days it is both chewy and dry. I could make tastier tacos from my roomate Shaman's Birkenstocks. Kvetch number three, beans. Yes, I understand that refried beans vary from spot to spot. Some have more lard than others, some have a difference in consistency ranging from soupy to stiff. The beans here have a category of their own - old. They are always stiff and taste dusty. Even the oily strands of cheese on top seem apologetic. Kvetch that broke the camel's back, rolled tacos. Let's be honest, rolled tacos are never the best item on a menu but on those certain nights when a few beers steer you towards them they usually kick ass. Topped with guac and cheese, and sometimes lettuce, they usually hit the spot after a hard night at the Salty Frog (love that joint, hi Kanai!!!) More often than not they are filled ever so slightly with some kind of ground meat. This place has apparently hit the wall, jumped the shark, scraped the bottom of the barrel (insert clichè) and has resorted to cutting the ever-so-precious ground meat mixture with rice. Really?! Rice?!?! I hate to use swear words but my only response to that rhymes with tuck too. Don Panchos, you had a small place in my heart. You are local. Your green sauce is dope. The tortillas have never been stale. The lady at the register who sneers at everyone even exudes the slightest bit of charm when she throws the baggie of carrots in the bag before hurling it out the window. All of those good reasons garnered you two extremely gracious stars. But you blew it, my friend. Adios muchacho. I'm going to Armandos from now on.

Not too shabby, good portions, great flavor, can be a little soggy and greasy at times. I always get their mini tacos & surf/turf.

Last night we ordered 5 burritos...surf and turf. All 5 of us have food poisoning and puking everywhere. Two people are in the hospital because of it. Unbelievable. Who serves rotten food!!???!!

    (1)
  • Christy N.

Food was good, but it took us over 25 min to get our carne asada nachos. They had no restrooms and no inside dinning and we sat outside and couldn't enjoy our food because there were some many flies . I would eat here again but only if I was to order ahead of time and take it home.

    (2)
  • Jacob M.

For some reason, the staff skimps on green sauce. I ask for it before i even get my order, and they act like it's a specialty item or like I'm inconveniencing them. I know I sound like a spoiled, tw@t...full to the brim of entitlement, but... is green tomatillo salsa really such an inconvenience? I am treated strangely like a loose canon if I ask for two to three green sauces... Like it's in short supply or something. If I'm crazy in this so be it. When I order a California I like green sauce. Sue me. I wouldn't put this in a review if it hadn't happened on numerous occasions. El amigo is down the street and better.

Rude staff (cashier woman) and child sized burritos. I had 5 hungry men to feed and they were still hungry after eating their burritos. There are plenty of other taco shops to go to in IB, I will not be returning.

  • Jeremy S.

OH MY WORD!! Why would anyone not LOVE this joint?? Some people were critical and said that only one or two items were good. Bogus! My wife and three kids (under 10yrs old) ate 5 different menu items and each one was incredible. I got the Surf and Turf. Its a big burrito, but I was extra hungry. For only $1.69 more they made it a Combo with rice and beans. It was awesome and so tasty. The meat, cheese, shrimp, and rice were just perfect. I could brag the same about the quesadillas, 5 rolled tacos, or chicken burrito. My kids "hate Mexican food," but they ate all of their food and that of their siblings. This place is awesome. They charge only $.50 for a credit/debit transaction; reasonable. WE LOVE DON PANCHO!!

  • Allan G.

My fiancee and I recently moved to Imperial Beach and I was on my way home one evening and decided to stop and try this place. I got a surf and turf burrito and thought it was delicious! They had a picture of it on the outside wall of their restaurant and that's what led me to it. Tons of shrimp and tons of meat made it really good! Not too long after my first visit, I stopped in on the way to work to get a breakfast burrito which was also very tasty. You get what you pay for as the portions are very decent. They also have indoor and outdoor seating for those people that want to eat there. I can't wait to go back!

    (5)
  • Brittany S.

5 stars all the way!! I've lived three blocks away for 12 years and this is the traditional weekend breakfast or lunch for me. I've had a good portion of the menu and everything is delicious, unlike other Mexican places in IB. As for the 'rude cashier,' I've never had a problem with her. Even some of the newer ones are just as awesome!

  • Ryan P.

My go to burrito spot. The surf and turf burrito is amazingly delicious. I bring everyone I know to get one if the opportunity arises. Their California burrito is fantastic too.

  • L P.

The best burrito stand in all of San Diego!!! Don Panchos is a must stop eatery. Although a difficult spot to get too, unless you live in Imperial Beach, the stand is located at the south end of the strand... so it's a bit of a drive, but it's well worth it. When you walk up, you'll see large ordering menus on the outside... so, make your order on the outside and wait for your food. You can get it to go or sit at the few tables they have on the inside and out. The service is fast and you can even call ahead and place an order. The absolute best item, and most popular, are the California Burritos!!! I've eaten a lot of burritos, and can safely say... these are the best around. What really brings out the awesomeness of the burrito is the sauce, the red hot sauce. So, if you're ever in the area... stop and get a California burrito!

Never going there again my food and my kids food had hair plus they took 28 minutes for our food I regret the tip I left them I tip them 5 bucks smh plus the food gave me and my family diarrhea

Surf and turf burrito: the best you will ever have, period. Their spicy, kind of pickle carrots are also awesome!

    (5)
  • Jesse R.

Possibly the best Mexican food I've ever had. Great carne asada, great Cali burrito. refried beans and rice are on point, and so is the horchata. The only thing I don't like is that they charge extra for using card.

    (5)
  • Lou M.

Been the same since high school. I've been going to panchos for as long as I can remember and always so good. Never had a bad experience the super nachos will make your tastebuds explode. So dam good. Rolled tacos always bomb and another favorite it the quesadilla supreme. Also the regulars are always good to... crane burro, machaca, chorizo, carnitas , beef tacos , el pastor damn so good trying to go there right now

Only reason I come here is for the menudo... The chick in the front wiff the big 4head and chola eye brows gots to be the rudest person ever. Anywayz juss saying food is good tho.

  • Cece A.

Decided to come here to grab a quick bite right after work, and wow just simply effing wow! Rude staff I would say, the female who rang us up was just ugh. As she was giving me my receipt to sign, she didn't hand it to me in a simple way she just slammed it down with attitude. Honestly if you're gonna do that in front of a customer it just shows how much you hate your job. I'd rather be disrespected by my cat than to be dealing with service or should I say people like that. Probably keep my distance from this place for a while until they change their service.

    (1)
  • David H.

I pass by here every morning on my way to work and every day I want to stop but it's not the healthiest of foods. But it's delicious!!!! I've been here more times than I've actually checked in. I'm not sure what time they actually open, because some days it's 6:30am, 7am, 7:30am, or 8am. Depends on who's at the window I guess. Regardless really good California Burrito.

    (4)
  • Sara T.

I've been to Don Panchos multiple times. Their burritos are huge, my favorite is the surf and turf. If you're looking for some good Mexican fast food, this is a good choice. The service is quick and friendly. The place is a little run-down and right at the end of the silver strand. A couple of my friends told me that they got sick after eating here but it's never happened to me.

Decent food fabulous price now a days it's hard to find a Tacoshop that's Good and Fair price.

    (5)
  • Cassandra L.

As far as SD Mexican taco stands go this place is especially mediocre. Not downright terrible but nothing especially interesting or tasty about the food. The salsas are good and probably the best thing about the menu. I recommend dousing whatever you order in the red salsa. The carne asana fries are disappointing. I would not recommend ordering them here. They use Velveeta cheese and the fries are soggy and bland. I've definitely had better elsewhere. The tacos are likewise mediocre. I ordered beef tacos and the meat was bland and unappetizing.

Real deal California burritos, right on the border. It's divey, inexpensive and a tasty burrito. Great texture to the tortillas. Nice and thin with the right amount of stretch. Machaca beef was good. Huge portions! Note: the rating is based solely on my burrito experience. The tacos that my friend ordered and other menu items didn't have the authenticity I look for in a street food joint.

  • Rachel H.

I have ventured from Coronado- IB along the strand for a long time and just tried this taco shop for the first time. It was interesting, wasn't bad, but wasn't what I was expecting. Probably won't go back again. Ordered Carne Asada fries for my niece and myself and a Carne Asada Burrito for another niece. Carne Asada Burrito was eaten almost whole- but she is growing and scarfs her food. She said it was good. The fries- different strokes for different folks I suppose. If you love nachos, you will love these fries. They had melted NACHO cheese on them, and big fat fries. The carne asada was okay, but I had Lucha Libre the other day so I am spoiled at expecting delicious taco shop meat now... but anyway! The fries were pretty much Nachos-- jalapenos included. Beans, guac, sour cream. They weren't bad, but I wasn't excited about it. In all- wasn't for me, but may be for you! Staff was fast, and friendly! Fair prices.

    (3)
  • Ula L.

The pollo asado burrito with sour cream is the best!!!! They use nacho cheese on their carne asada fries - no bueno! The breakfast burritos are amazing.....along with all their other burritos!! Don't come here at noon, it gets packed! I always see a lot of military members here at noon which makes for a long wait. If you're lucky, Stardust Donuts is open and you can grab that while you wait for IB's finest burritos!

  • Nora V.

This is the kind of divey taco stand that exists for surf bums, teenage kids, military brats, and anyone looking for great Mexican street food. It's not the healthiest but it's cheap and quick. Will go again if I'm in the area

    (5)
  • Johana T.

GOOD FOOD AND CHEAP! I got a California burrito and if I recall correctly, it was less then $5. The place has a kind of weird setup but it's understandable because it's close to the beach. You order through a window and there are a few tables outside next to it, but you can never actually go inside. The food then comes out through a 2nd window. I have been there twice and both times they had a handful of people and small line, so that itself lets you know it's a good place :)

    (4)
  • Oscar V.

The California burrito here is great but what ruined my whole experience here everytime i come here is that RUDE cashier lady behind the counter. EVERYTIME!! She has that evil face & backs it up with her attitude! & I'm not the only one who thinks the same. My bestfriend, My mother in law, my mom & my girlfriend had all had a bad experience with her. The food here is good dont get me wrong but not Good enough to choose it over other taco shop theres more & better taco shops & until she leaves ill start going again just because its right next to my house & Beware she looks like an evil witch! & when i went to eat inside she turned the tv off on me & turned it back on as soon as i left.

Drive by this place. Do NO stop. There are 2 Mexican places on Palm. Go to one of them. This place is HORRID. I did a carry out. My order was screwed up. Items were missing. The burrito was burnt. The flying saucer was over cooked. The girl who "rang" us up was so rude. I live in IB...right across the street from here. I will NEVER go here again. I will go the extra mile to Sombrero's on Palm where the customer is respected and the food is excellent.

  • Robert S.

The inly reason I am giving it 4 stars is the surf and turf burrito. I had a few itching things in the menu, it was average, but the surf and turf s amazing

    (4)
  • Alex A.

Ordered the surf and turf burrito. Keep it short and simple. for a san diego native this is a very disappointing burrito. Some subpar carne asada, shrimp, some sauce and rice. For anybody outside san diego and they like "Chipotle" it's shrimp, rice and chopped up steak. I guess you can consider it good.

    (2)
  • Grisseth R.

My husband is in the Military and every time he travels to San Diego he has to stop at Don Panchos, For the past 2 years he was always talking about their amazing burritos. And finally a couple of months ago he brought me one of they Shrimp Burritos. It was Amazing! Flavor, Spicey, and their Sauce Yummi! I can't wait to also Visit San Diego and stop here for a Burrito :)

    (5)
  • Ashley N.

This is one of my go-to taco shops. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is b/c of the service - the girl who takes orders tends to have an attitude almost every time I go. If she were a little more pleasant I would give the full 5.

    (4)
  • Juje J.

Maybe it's me...then again, maybe it's not, but my one and only experience at the DON PANCHOS TACO SHOP wasn't a good one. I was short on time and had to get to work when I passed by here for what I thought would be a quick stop and go breakfast burrito. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I ordered a Breakfast Burrito and it took around 15 minutes to get my food. I'm not a food expert, but it looked to me like the cook was more concerned with prepping food for later than getting my order. That being said, as I sat in my car in front of work 15 minutes later, I have to say that this was one of the greasiest burritos I've ever had. Not also did it upset my stomach (and made me go to the bathroom) but it left a BAD TASTE in my mouth. Would I come here again? Probably not...If I'm in the mood for a breakfast burrito on my way to work, there are other places that serve better food and have a faster service.

BEST FOOD EVER!!!!! I love their rolled tacos, burritos and flying saucers. Well worht the drive and the wait...the food is EXCELLENT

  • Kel C.

Cheap, hot, and fresh. I took 6 teens here after a day of lifeguard training-- they ate like kings, for a total of $30. The California Burrito is the best I've ever had. And that's saying a lot. Because I don't really like Cali burritos. But the fries in these were hot and crispy. And I swear it weighed over a pound, easy-peasy. To top it off, it was fast, and the service was friendly. It'll be my go-to spot when I have starving teens from now on. I would have taken a photo of the food, but the kids were scarfing them like the Walking Dead.

  • Evelyn M.

I love don panchos! Im Mexican and let me tell you this is one of the FEW Mexican restaurants that come close to real aunthentic Mexican food, like it literally reminds me of my mother's cooking. I love it. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars, is because the lady that works there is rude, she doesn't have good customer service skill, other than that it's pretty good(:

    (4)
  • Ed S.

Best surf n turf burrito I've ever had! The shrimp was cooked perfectly, the Carne Asada was seasoned just right. The orange sauce they add is outstanding. A definite must spot here in Imperial Beach.

This places serves up some delicious, late-night, heart-clogging, classic californian mexican food. There's not a single thing on the menu that isn't good, however, like most reviews have said, consistency is not their shtick. It's cheap, it's the best when it's good, and it's still edible when it's not. It's comfort mexican food. If you want perfection and presentation, this isn't the place to go, but if you want some cheesy, sourcream and guac covered carne asada, drive down to IB and get yourself a delicious burrito. Note: I'm born and raised californian and I've never had a better california burrito than I've had here. Other may contest, but thats truth to my tastebuds.

This by far has got to be one of the worst mexican restaurants I've been to in the last 5 years... I walked inside and ordered standard fair- shredded beef chimichanga. Came with rice and beans. First of all the rice was room temperature and the beans tasted dry, over cooked and quite possibly out of a can! As I started to dive into the chimichanga, I noticed the guacamole didn't look right. When I tried to ask the gal at the register if this was in fact guacamole, she answered with an attitude "of course it is". The guacamole looked and tasted watered down. Almost as if they added sour cream to it and reduced the amount of avocado. Once I got into the chimichanga, I noticed it lacked something...the actual shredded beef! The more I cut into it, the more refried (dry of course) beans I ate. I cut the whole chimichanga down the middle and opened it up. I found maybe a couple of slivers of beef mixed into nothing but beans. Absolutely disgusting. Never again will I go back there. I'm surprised this place is even open! Two thumbs way down....

Always go here for ANY of my Mexican cravings. Generally the ladies behind the counter suck at being friendly, mainly cause they only know your ORDER and nothing more. As long as they don't mess my stuff up, I'm 100% content. Close walk from the house and good eats in my book! They don't use FAKE Sour Cream or Guac and they DEFINITELY didn't rip off the design from another company lol. Good spot for a quick lunch, especially if you LOVE a good hot sauce!

Better than your average taco shop. Excellent carne asada and pollo asada.

Went to coronado high school and this was the place to go! Still just as good. I always get the pollo asada burrito and my bf loves the carne asada burrito! I always want to try something new, but the burritos are too good. I've had the rolled tacos and the mini beef tacos. They are good, but def recommend the burritos. Bomb tortillas!

I went down to IB for the day to hang out with friends. I live 30 mins away and if I was really craving a good burrito, I would make the drive! the food is a good price especially for HOW MUCH FOOD you get. Last night, got the surf and turf burrito. The burrito is easy to share if you are not so hungry, but if you have been out on the waves and can eat this is the place to go. It was spicy and flavor-filled. They also have cokes in the bottle! Quality!

Surf and turf burritos are amazing. I also enjoy the carnitas. Service can be a bit hectic as they get busy during lunch/dinner hours, but it's worth the wait.

Just finished my first California Burrito. It was unique and filling and totally worth it. I think I'm going back tomorrow for breakfast ...

The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because the majority of the time the food is actually good. But if I could give 0 stars for the level of customer service they have I would. The ladies that work here particularly in the evening time, older lady with black hair in a pony tail, are extreme cunts. The degree of attitude they give off is ridiculous, if you ask for any special requests, even though your willing to pay for them, they snap you a look that could kill. The main reason for this review was when I got home to enjoy my delicious california burrito and it had fucking beans in it. Who the hell ever puts beans in a california burrito, and if you do then let your customers know. This place never puts beans in the cali burritos, but today I guess the line cook decided to smoke a fat blunt before he prepared my california burrito and put fucking beans in it. Someone needs to go in their and slap the hell out of their employees til they get shit right.

UPDATE: I am changing my previous 4 star rating to a 2... Today I walked over to get a California Burrito no big deal as it is my favorite item on their menu. When I got home a proceeded to eat the for mentioned burrito and I bit into a french fry that was so over cooked it can only be described as charcoal falling apart in my mouth. It was so disgusting I almost was sick and had to spit out my food and rinse my mouth out. I never released how difficult it is to NOTICE burnt fries in a batch of cooked fries! I have always ranted and raved about this place but now I am not so sure I will be going back. This last visit sure did leave a nasty taste in my mouth. ORIGINAL POST: My husband and I come here very often. I always get the California Burrito because I love it. Along with the carrots. There 99 cent fish taco's are also pretty good. They have this really awesome sauce that sets them apart from other places that offer fish taco's The only reason why I don't give them 5 stars is because their food is not consistent. It always tastes good but sometimes I come in and get super small Burrito and others it is gigantic. And every time I am paying the same price.

I just got two fish tacos - arrive back at work to realize they are ice cold on the sides - the tortilla near frozen and the inside fish barely luke warm. So they serve day old Fish Taco's pulled out the fridge and barely thawed (30 seconds in a microwave would have helped!). Best of luck eating this shite

While I usually don't like to make a review unless I've been some where more then once and sampled more then one meal, but I doubt I will come back just because it's not near home. We went here after riding our bikes all the way down the strand from Coronado. I don't know if it was because of the 10 miles we just biked, but I was pretty hungry and me and Berto both got the California Burrito. My only complaint was that it was supposed to have gauc and it had none, which is a bit disappointing. There's not much healthy about a Cali Burrito and they lynched it. I had to giggle when a guy after us (obviously new to southern california) asked what a California burrito was after we got called up to the cook. They mentioned quac, had to say to myself apparently not. But still good for what the place is all the same I suppose.

The surf and turf is great, customer service rude, English only menu, but I'll deal with it the food is great. Far from the house but food is good worth the drive. We just moved here from Sunnyvale. We have been to several place this was the best.

Worth the drive down the strand to eat here. Love their California burritos and the other items on the menu. 50 cent soda re-fill cost can surely be removed!

Don Panchos used to be called Los Panchos back in the day! This was and always will be my #1 go-to spot. if you eat there the only draw back is, no bathrooms. Still the food is awesome, never get anything soggy like most places. The meat is never burned or crunchy. The prices are still awesome and you get what you pay for =)

  • Steph I.

Just tried Don Panchos for lunch and am so happy we did. Ordered four carne asada burritos (they come w/meat, guacamole and pico de gallo (so I asked for beans too). Also got 12 rolled tacos. Everything was great! The carne asada was lean and flavorful. The beans are homemade and terrific. The rolled tacos were crispy and tasty. Since we just moved to Coronado, I'm thrilled we found a great hole in the wall so quickly!

Original name: Los Panchos. Owner just changed Los to Don. Same owner. Same Food, Los Panchos was like one of the original taco shops. they have been around since the 70s. now there are taco shops trying to be like los panchos on every damn corner. los panchos is the best, has been the best, and will continue to be the best. they have the freshest food and are very clean. i love the california burrito (carne asada, cheese, sour cream, and french fries). i also love the carne asada fries. damn i'm getting hungry. on days when i dont feel like eating a lot i get two shredded beef tacos or 3 rolled tacos with the works (sour cream, lettuce, cheese, and salsa).

If you want a burrito that contains some kind of meat, you will not be disappointed. My favorite is the Surf and Turf because I love shrimp and carne asada and I get both! Not to mention, the shrimp are covered in their hot sauce which is chock full of flavor and some good heat. Carne Asada burrito is great, as is the Camarones a la Diabla burrito. And of course I have to mention the California Burrito; hands down the best I've had in San Diego. I'd like to say that the rest of the menu is good as well, but to be perfectly honest, with the four amazing burritos mentioned above I don't see myself ordering anything else anytime soon. Oh, and the horchata is on point! Yeah it might take a little while to get your food, but that's because they make everything fresh and on the spot. If you're in a hurry, you can always call your order in ahead of time. Problem solved! :D

I was staying for the week at the Del Coronado resort, and was a bit tired of the haute cuisine and upper-middle-class schtick, so I drove south to Imperial Beach and found this taco shop on the side of the road. The fish tacos were great. They give this baggie of marinated veggies (carrots, peppers, etc.) that are vinegary and cut the fat of the tacos. Nice hard crispy tortilla chips on the side, and a very flavorful salsa. I sat outside on a worn round 1970's pre-fab fiberglass picnic table and consumed my feast under an occasionally blinking fluorescent light. Smelled the salt in the late night sea breeze and realized that life was good. In the meantime, all manner of cars drove up to pick up carry out. Some run down cars, but a lot of high-roller Mercedes and Escalades. I think that was testament enough that the rest of the food in here is 2-thumbs-up material. Hence, the 4 stars. Next time I'm in the SD/Coronado area, I'll be back for a late night repast.

  • Christian G.

pretty gosh darn good california burrito. everything is crispy and NOT soggy =). comes w/ sour cream, cheese, & fries. its good. $4.88 gets you one of the best cali's in imperial beach. sure they ripped off Los Panchos in their design, but certainly it outclasses Los Panchos in the quality of their cali burrito. dunno what else to say other than if you're in the area, and you want a decent cali (minus the guac), you won't be disappointed here.

  • Laura K.

Excellent rolled tacos, haven't had anything else there! Parking can be a trick sometimes, but it's a good local taco shop. It does have seating inside as well (about 10 people could probably fit). Been several times and this is the place if you are around IB or Coronado and you are craving some rolled tacos!

    (4)
  • R M.

Pretty decent Mexican food shop. I like to get the 5 rolled tacos deal.

  • Darius J.

It only gets 3 stars because there's not much to it. I love fish and California burritos and south of the 54, this place has some of the best. Great, crispy fries in the Cali...Crispy fish in the fish burrito. Great little spot if you want a quick stop. Fast, polite and clean.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
